Stand Firm

When things get hot, I want to get out of the kitchen.

When circumstances become difficult, I want to hide.

Retreat.

Run away.

Let someone else stand in the line of fire.

But God calls us to stand firm.

I know women who the years have etched deep lines around their eyes. Their hands are wrinkled from years of doing the work of caring for others, and their knees are worn from battle. These women have stood beside friends traversing deep valleys, they have prayed through the enemy’s attack on their husbands and their children, and they’ve walked the lonely road of grief many times. Their lines tell their stories. Life has not been easy.

But these women are still standing.

They have been victorious.

They have stayed in the kitchen.

I want to be a woman who fights through life’s battles on her knees.  I want to be the one who is still standing despite life’s storms whipping wild around her.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.     ~ Ephesians 6:13 (NLT)

We must realize who we are fighting against. We do not wage war against flesh and blood.

We have an enemy who is seeking to kill, steal, and destroy. He will stop at no less. He is prowling around like a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour. And he doesn’t relent simply because it’s Christmas.

I wonder if he battles harder.

If I run, the enemy wins. But if I stand firm on the Rock in truth and call to the One who goes before me, the enemy runs.

What is happening in your world that is causing you to want to run? Don’t do it, sister. Fight the battle from your knees.

Stand firm.

I opened my bible this morning after reading your blog planning to read Ephesans 6. It opened to James 1 instead. The title of that passage is ‘trials and temptations’. It is a powerful message of encouragement to persevere in the midst of difficulty . The Lord knows there are days we need to hear those words. Thanks for being open to the Spirit.
